thanks for the info Lord. I didn't think it would be too much of a "secret spot" with there being a handful of pictures posted on GE. Just didn't see any of those outer reefs. You make a good point about it probably being cheaper to get to indo but i guess if you want some uncrowded surf, it might be worth the effort. those tigers don't sound too inviting though.

sharkies, that spot definitely looks COLD. Never noticed those islands but I have spent some time looking around the French Southern and Antartic Islands. They are always getting peppered with the purple blobs that move that direction from the southern hemi uber-storms. It's a pretty harsh coastline but I have to think one of the more sheltered coves could hold a swell that wrapped in. Check out 49 26'03"S and 70 26'25"E. The res is not that good on GE but there is a picture posted just to the south that gives me some hope. Only problem is, there may be some comapny in the water with you.

Folly - Definately waves up there. Abrolhos Islands. Bit of a mission but there are charters that go out there on combined fishing and surfing trips. Ry Craike has a bit of video up where he takes his boat out there for some surfing and fishing. Lots of big noahs out there though. Last attack was about 2005 by a big tiger shark.

I don't think that I am blowing the lid on this one as with what it would cost to fly over, get 8 to 10 guys together then charter the boat and of course making your way to Geraldton you would be better off going straight to Indo. (Hell - I'm in Perth and even I take the slack ass indo approach a couple of times a year - even though mates have shown me some impressive photos from up there).

However if you lived up that way and had a boat it would be on, on a regular basis.

lord humongous.....question about WA Post date: 03/13/2012 10:42:13 AM

lord....sometimes when i get bored, i like to jump on google earth and track down uncharted surf spots or spots that are not well known. i was looking around WA today and saw there are a few coral atolls right off the coast of Geraldton. Have you ever hear of anyone taking a boat out there or know if there is a decent reef pass that picks up swell? It looks like there is some serious potential.
